Onna
Onna is a Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Its name comes from an acronym of the names of the four predominant clans in the area: Oniong, Nnung Ndem, Awa Afaha and Asuna Nung Oku.
Onna has a population of about 295,000 people worldwide. Onna is bounded by the east by Eket, west by mkpat enin and south to eastern Obolo and Ibeno. Onna has no proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the people of Onna are predominantly farmers. Onna has hosted various oil company while search is ongoing for more oil discovery. Currently the state government is doing its best to claim neighbouring community ancestral lands & draw it boundary toward the Atlantic Ocean, so as to enhance & benefit from the PIB bill sign by the Federal government. Then write is story as follow below: Host to exon Mobil Nigeria, oil exploration is ongoing in communities such as Ukpana, Akpabom, Ikot Abasi, Ikwe etc. Another host to the Utapette, Atabrikang and Ibioto oil fields. All these host claiming communities are in Ibeno & Eastern Obolo.The local government is also home to a number of highly intellectual population who have made numerous impact in the community, nationwide and in the diasporas.
Awa Iman in Onna is the hometown of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel former Governor of Akwa Ibom State 2015-2023. Udom Emmanuel become the governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2015 after taking over from his predecessor, Senator Godswill Akpabio on the platform of the people's democratic party, PDP his successor is Pastor Umo Eno, Incumbent Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
