Shekel
A shekel or sheqel (Akkadian: 饞厗饞厳饞嚮, romanized: 拧iqlu, siqlu; Ugaritic: 饜帢饜帠饜帊, romanized: 峁痠ql, Hebrew: 砖拽诇, romanized: 拧eqel, plural Hebrew: 砖拽诇讬诐, romanized: 拧蓹q膩lim, Phoenician: 饜饜饜) is an ancient Mesopotamian coin, usually of silver. A shekel was first a unit of weight鈥攙ery roughly 11 grams (0.35 ozt)鈥攁nd became currency in ancient Tyre, Carthage and Hasmonean Judea.
